Peter Bishop Saturday 8am - Repeated Friday 8am
Although never starting out as a DJ or radio presenter, I've always had a love of music and in my teens went to youth clubs where they played mostly reggae and shortly afterwards met my - soon to be wife - who was into soul and Motown. In those days, I also used to listen to 'Pirate' Radio including Radio London and Radio Caroline even though in the evenings, the reception would fade in and out. In my teen years I used to regularly listen to Greg Edwards on Capital Radio and got into the funk and jazz funk tracks and of course recorded everything onto cassette. Once I started working, one of my colleagues used to be a DJ in his spare time and he used to bring his deck into work and he let me use it to play and mix tracks and again, record everything onto cassette. I still have those cassettes in my shed and hope they are still playable. I was also blown away when I watched 'The Blues Brothers' on VHS and also then fell in love with Blues and Soul music. When I retired, I had to find something to keep me occupied, so I started my own internet radio station catering for my local area and still have that running. All of my music comes from CDs which I convert to .mp3 format and have boxes and boxes of them in my house as people want to give them away as they take up so much room. I have a streaming server at home which has about 35 Tbytes of space, of which I am only using 3 max. Maybe an overkill, but certainly loads more spec for more music. Some of my CDs were given to me by other DJs who are on other radio stations and they have very kindly pre-recorded shows for me for my radio station. I also got friendly with a DJ who lives nearby who used to do '80's nights at a local club and he often shows me his latest decks - most of which are very high spec Pioneer. I saw an advert last year for Rare Groove Radio asking for presenters, so I jumped at the chance and was honoured to be given the Saturday morning breakfast slot, which I consider the best slot to start everyone's weekend off with some fantastic tracks. Special thanks go out to all my listeners for joining me every Saturday morning.
